Nam quốc sơn hà

Nam quốc sơn hà Nam đế cư,
Tiệt nhiên định phận tại thiên thư.
Như hà nghịch lỗ lai xâm phạm,
Nhữ đẳng hành khan thủ bại hư.

Sông núi nước Nam

Sông núi nước Nam vua Nam ở,
Rành rành định phận tại sách trời.
Cớ sao lũ giặc sang xâm phạm,
Chúng bay sẽ bị đánh tơi bời.

南國山河

南 國 山 河 南 帝 居
截 然 定 分 在 天 書
如 何 逆 虜 來 侵 犯
汝 等 行 看 取 敗 虛

Vietnamese Mountains and Rivers

Over Mountains and Rivers of the South,
reigns the Emperor of the South,
As it stands written forever in the Book of Heaven.
How dare those barbarians invade our land?
Your armies, without pity, will be annihilated

Das Land Vietnam

Das Land Vietnam, wo sein König bleibt.
Das is offensichtlich im Heiligen Buch zugeteilt.
Warum haben die Eindringlinge es überschritten?
Euch wird eine brutale Niederlage beigebracht!

It's ironically that Vietnam is the country that adopts the most of chinese culture, thinking and systems than any of country outthere. And yet harbor one of the more anti-china stance among its people, it's ingrained its culture, lol.

When the whites conquer its colonies it's using catholicsm to pacify the indegineous people and it worked.

In Confucism, every man wants to be its own boss. that's what we seeing from vietnamese..

Before the Quin dynasty, there were 6 countries in the area now called China. The Viet people already had their own territory at around the same, and this very territory, as small as it is, is still where it is called Vietnam with the same Viet people living on it. Back then there were no such thing is Chinese but six different nations that eventually lost their independent to the Quin. The first few generations were so upset and loyal to the old king, . . . look at their children now, the so-called Chinese are proud of what their ancestors used to be so shameful of . . .

Your ancestor lost their countries to the Quin for you to be proud and loyal to what is called China now. If I were you, Mao. I wouldn't be too loud and proud.

But again, this forum is not for meaningless verbal abuse. If you only have antagonist, meaningless words, but not intelligent critics, to write, this forum is not for you, Mao.

Thanks for visiting VietWill, but please only discuss the materials but refrain yourself from negating the Vietnamese by foul language or unintellectual style.

Mao,

When Vietnamese really began their effort to gain independence from French colonialism, they decided to forego the former style of writing with characters, but instead adopted Western script (in Vietnamese 'national script'). They made use of concepts of independence and human rights learned through a French education. They ate French bread too.

Do you see a correlation between how the Vietnamese gained independence from the French and how they gained independence from the Chinese?

For the Vietnamese peopel, taking on aspects of the oppressor's culture is not submission but a method of fighting back. It is a wonderful paradox in Vietnamese history of nation building and maintenance. And it's very effective.

Who can deny that Chinese civilization is big and powerful? Who reject the dept of Confucism philosophy? Why is it a problem to learn from something worth learning?

The Vietnamese learn from Chinese because Chinese has things worth learning. It would be a problem if you know something worth learning, and insist not to learn from it. The point is we pick and choose what valuable to learn, and we keep our value tight.

We learn Confucianism from the Chinese philosopher, but we never learn greediness and aggressiveness from the Chinese government.

Likewise, you should be proud and protect the beauty of Chinese culture and people, but don't be blind and support the shameful aggressive acts committed by your government.

Mao,

Everything on this webpage right now is in English. If there is Vietnamese, the Vietnamese is also translated into English. So if you want your post to stay, you might consider translating it into English for all to read. And we do value and appreciate debate on this forum, especially from our Chinese friends. So, please take some time to translate your post. If not, the admin may not have a choice but to remove it, which would be a waste of your time for having posted it.
dinhly  - Vietan to assume UNSC presidency   |06-30-2008 19:58:20
Vietnam will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), beginning on July 1. Vietnam should take this golden opportunity to bring up the issue of Paracel & Spratly islands and settle the dispute through the UN. I call on Viet Will organizer and Vietnamese around the world to rally for the love of our country and our future! Let us bring out the Bronze Drum and rally at UN headquarter for the love of Vietnam!

It is quite unfortunate that in the Press Conference below, there is no mention of the issue of the South China Sea dispute.

Press conference by Security Council President
The Middle East, African issues, and an open debate on children and armed conflict will constitute the focus of the United Nations Security Council’s work programme during July, Le Luong Minh, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam and Council’s President for the month, told correspondents at a Headquarters press conference in New York today.

Briefing on the Council’s programme of work during his country’s presidency, Mr. Minh said, in light of the recent and present positive political developments in the region, the Council plans to hold an open debate on the Middle East on 22 July. It would be the first such open debate on the region in a long time. It was his hope that the meeting would afford not only the 15-member Security Council, but the broader membership of the Organization ‘and those concerned about the issue’, the opportunity to reflect not only on the assessment of developments, but also on potential contributions Members could make to push the political process forward.

He said that, before the Middle East meeting, the Council will hold an open debate on children and armed conflict on 17 July. The meeting is being organized at the initiative of Viet Nam. Given the importance of the issue and Viet Nam’s intention, as Council President, to enhance the interest and attention of the United Nations and the Security Council on this important issue, that meeting will be presided over by the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Also in July, he said, the mandates of a number of United Nations missions will be expiring, including the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID); the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI); the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE); and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). All of those will need a Council decision on either their extension, or any other decision on each of the missions’ mandates during the month.

Asked if the Council is expected to hold any meetings specifically to debate political developments in Myanmar and Zimbabwe, the Council President said, while there was consensus to hold such meetings, members could not reach any agreement during this morning’s discussion of the programme of its work with regard to when such meetings might be held. That, however, did not mean that such meetings could not come up during the month, and he would continue to consult and advise accordingly. He said that there were proposals for the President to keep the Council apprised of the humanitarian situation in both Myanmar and Zimbabwe. Similarly, no consensus could be reached on Saudi Arabia’s proposal to discuss Israeli settlements, he added.

Hi Dinh Ly,

Do you have any ideas of what VietWill or other groups should do at this time? It would be good if you can propose some ideas and perhaps see if it is something that would help us towards our goals. I hope to see your response!
Dinh Ly   |07-04-2008 22:01:26
Tony,

Your contribution to this forum is commendable. I believe dissemination of information through online and offline channel is important so keep up the great work. The next steps are participation and action.
1)Participation: How do we mobilize people and get the public to participate in our cause.
2)Action: What action shall we take.
The detail of which we/others can explore further.

Hanoi have always strike a diplomatic and concillatory tone toward the issue, and most of the time silent. Vietnam representative to UNSC is no different. So it is our duty as committed citizens (domestic or abroad) united to lead the fight. It's important that we understand the historical development of Vietnam and its current reality. Our cause is to protect our homeland against China aggression. Thereby our rallies and demonstrations are aimed at China at its embassy in the US, elswhere, and the UN Headquarter. By doing so the pressure is on China to back-off and gives Hanoi leverage in dealing with Beijing.
